Future of Health Forum 2026

Stronger Together: Shaping the Future of Health in Aotearoa

Friday 27th March - Wellington

The NZWIM Future of Health Forum brings together health leaders, system thinkers and change makers for a different kind of gathering: one designed not just to inform, but to involve. Set against the real pressures facing our health system today, this forum creates space for honest conversation, fresh perspectives and collective problem solving around where we are headed, and how we might get there, or elsewhere, together.

This is a hopeful and practical day, grounded in the belief that progress is possible when the sector works together. With outcomes captured visually and shared beyond the room, the forum aims to create momentum that lasts well beyond the event itself. If you’re ready to engage, contribute and be part of shaping what comes next for New Zealand’s health system, this forum is for you.

Future of Health Forum is proudly sponsored by…

Speakers, Facilitators & Hosts

Across the day, we’ll hear from influential voices spanning leadership, economics, primary care, Māori health, patient advocacy and community action. Rather than traditional presentations, panels are actively facilitated conversations, with time built in for reflection, questions and shared insight from the room. This ensures ideas are tested, challenged and enriched by the collective experience of everyone present.

Our key speakers & special guests include Sir Ashley Bloomfield, Hon Dr. Ayesha Verrall, Dr Richard Sullivan, Dr Samantha Murton, Dr David Galler, Dr Rawiri Jansen, Shamubeel Eaqub, Rob Campbell, Dr Bryan Betty, Dr Angus Chambers, and many more. Susie Ferguson of RNZ National will feature as our MC for the day.

Futuristic design & aim

The forum is deliberately designed and facilitated by a globally recognised futurist, Victoria Mulligan.  Attendees will take part in structured working groups that explore possible futures for health in Aotearoa, the risks of standing still, and the gaps that must be addressed to achieve a shared long-term vision. These sessions are designed for active contribution — drawing on the knowledge, creativity and lived experience of participants as much as the expertise of speakers.

Together, we aim to:

  • draft a bipartisan, values-based vision for health

  • identify the key questions our political leaders need to answer

  • contribute to a shared, visual map of the health system as it really operate

Who should attend?

This forum is for people who are ready to engage, not just observe.  You should attend if you:

  • Care deeply about the future of New Zealand’s health system

  • Bring experience, insight or curiosity from anywhere across the health sector

  • Value collaboration, honesty & diverse perspectives

  • Are willing to contribute ideas, challenge thinking & listen

  • Want to help shape a shared vision, not just talk about it

With limited places to ensure meaningful discussion, this forum brings together a group committed to working alongside speakers and each other to imagine what’s possible — and what needs to change.
